Just because you're legacy, doesn't mean you're history... our team has been on stage, behind stage, and under stage for over 50 years. As the saying goes, we know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two. And we're not just responsive, we've been proactive since the start.

1974 - 2014
We'd love to say that we started out from humble beginnings, but we were disruptors from the get-go. Our founder, Ian Banning was a young and ambitious innovator that got his start in the long-haired days of touring rock bands... setting up and breaking down big, dumb, and heavy staging equipment for global acts that we all cherish. He was quick to notice that most of the gear the teams had to work with was outdated and frankly unintuitive. He quickly got to work redesigning and manufacturing what would become the next generation of staging hardware.

2015 - 2025
Along the path of innovation, you meet extraordinary talent and skilled team players... those that understand the entertainment industry, the global supply chain and planning required to stay on top of the latest trends. The Smartstage family has grown over time to become a powerful support team but we're also proud to have remained nimble and streamlined. Where our founder saw an opportunity to improve staging hardware, this era of ours saw a focus on finding the right people to help us lead our own industry with best practices in event operations and activator support.

2026+
